moving through a shifting landscape…

Al Keddie is a Scottish-born photographer and visual artist based in Aotearoa, New Zealand. A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, his practice spans photography, painting, animation, and digital processes, with landscape and our place within it as a central concern. He has lived and worked in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland since 2011.
Photography underpins his image-making, employing in-camera movement, long exposure, glitch, and iterative reworking to produce works that drift between recognition and abstraction.
His paintings and abstract works both draw from and feed back into photographic ways of seeing, while evolving their own material logic of surface, gesture, and colour.
Across mediums, his work embraces accident, ambiguity, and play, building layered images that remain open, unstable, and subject to shifting interpretation.
