Intentional Movement is an open collection of photographs made by moving the camera during exposure. It gathers individual works, small groups, developing sequences and images returned from the archive, across colour and black-and-white photography made with digital cameras and mobile phones.
The photographs begin with encountered places, changing light and passing situations. A turn, sweep, tilt or twist of the camera—or simply photographing while walking—loosens the scene from fixed description. Forms stretch, overlap or dissolve; light becomes line, flare or atmosphere. Each image depends on timing, chance and response to what is unfolding.
Unlike the more defined series gathered elsewhere within ICM, Intentional Movement is not a closed body of work. It will continue through occasional posts, bringing together recent photographs, experiments, developing sequences and older images returned to circulation.
