Dreaming Landscape

Dreaming Landscape is a series of black-and-white mobile photographic works made from Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland source material through iPhone multiple exposure and constructed photomontage.

Streets, vegetation, buildings, signs and fragments of the city are layered into projected landscapes: deserts, forests, shrines, ruins, ghost towns, swamps and overgrown urban spaces. The works do not leave the city behind. Instead, they make it appear overlaid, projected and unstable, as if different versions of place were occupying the same frame.

The desert is partly urban: vacant ground, work zones and neglected edges. Shrines and ruins emerge among the banks and towers of an overgrown, forested CBD, where the city gathers a more uncertain, mythic weight. Past, present and possible future overlap in the same frame.

Dreaming Landscape sits between observation and construction. It extends earlier landscape concerns through mobile capture, layering and digital recombination, opening a space where urban material, plant growth, financial architecture, memory and projection begin to form another kind of landscape.
